John Parkinson reports and produces from the U.S. Capitol and White House, contributing to the network's political coverage across all of its platforms. Parkinson has worked at ABC News since July 2004. He reported from the White House daily for the final two years of the Obama administration, traveling throughout the United States and world covering Barack Obama, including international coverage in Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. After the inauguration of President Donald Trump, Parkinson returned to the U.S. Capitol, where he reports on the Republican and Democratic leadership, committee hearings and legislative business considered by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. His first tour on Capitol Hill began in July 2010, just before the historic congressional midterm elections that fall. He has contributed to the network’s coverage through seven national elections, including the presidential inauguration of Trump, the second presidential inauguration of Barack Obama, as well as multiple national party conventions. Parkinson is an active member of the White House Correspondents’ Association and was the 2016 chairman of the Radio & Television Correspondents’ Association. A native of Baraboo, Wisconsin, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004 from the University of Wisconsin, double majoring in Journalism & Mass Communication and Political Science.
